Pipes & Drums

We are currently providing instruction with the intent to continue developing our Bagpipe and Drum Band in the Athens, Georgia area.  Last year our "Thistle and Kudzu Pipes and Drums" joined forces with the "North Atlanta Pipes and Drums" and the "Palmetto Pipes and Drums" to form the competition Grade 4 and grade 5 "Alliance Band".   The grade 5 band with 4 of our local group placed 1st at the Loch Norman Highland Games, The Savannah Scottish Games and the Greenville Scottish Games as well as 2nd place at the Charleston Scottish Games.

Another "Learn to Play the Bagpipes" class will begin Monday, January 9, 2012 and will be held every Monday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF) in Watkinsville.  The cost will be $40 for the first 10 week class.  Please call OCAF at (706) 769-4565 to register and make arrangements for your payment.  This class will continue beyond 10 weeks.

Bring a Dunbar regular size practice chanter with a Walsh reed and the "Green" bagpipe tutor book from the College of Piping.  These supplies can be obtained at the "Everything Scottish Shop" in Linville, North Carolina.
