                      Scottish Folk Singer Jim Malcolm!                    

 We are most pleased to announce the return of award winning Scottish folk singer Jim Malcolm to The Portico for a one night show on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 7:30 PM.  We're certain that Scotland's premier singer-songwriter will once more enthrall the audience with his humor, wit & talent!  Malcolm's concerts are like a blast of Scottish fun & culture.  He sings songs old & new, traditional & original, on guitar & harmonica & his witty introductions are an integral part of the evening's entertainment. Twice booked to sing for Prince Charles, Jim Malcolm was voted Scotland's Songwriter of the Year in 2004 & has been described as "one of the most outstanding talents to emerge from the Scottish Folk Scene in years."

The Portico, located in High Shoals, Georgia, offers a unique setting to see Jim Malcolm, retaining its roots with its pews & balcony from an era gone by.  It is located  approximately 20 minutes from Athens near the Apalachee River.  The address is 5822 Hwy 186, Good Hope, GA 30641(  Doors open at 6:30

The Red House Kitchen ( will be serving wonderful fare & non-alcoholic beverages before the show & during intermission.  This is a BYOB event. 

Seating is limited & advance tickets are encouraged.  Tickets are $16.00 in advance & $20.00 at the door.  Advance tickets may be secured by sending checks, made payable to Jim Malcolm.  Please provide phone number or email address for receipt confirmation.  Your name will be placed on the "will call" list.  Note:  Cash or Check ONLY at the door.

Thistle and Kudzu Scottish Society


Participation is open to anyone who has an interest in Scottish culture or is of Scottish/Celtic descent.


Thistle and Kudzu is a non profit Scottish heritage and fellowship organization covering Athens Georgia and the Surrounding Area.  Participation is open to anyone who has an interest in Scottish culture or is of Scottish/Celtic descent.


The goals of the society are:

  • Enjoyment of all aspects of Scottish culture

  • Education and community outreach regarding all aspects of Scottish culture.

  • Promoting awareness of the connection between Georgia and Scottish culture.

To achieve these goals, Thistle and Kudzu sponsors, participates in and supports a variety of exciting events, including classes in Royal Scottish Dancing, classes in bagpipes, Kirkin of the Tartan, and the annual Robert Burns Dinner.
